| CERIs
supply study provides a reality check for oil sands industry |
|
April 8, 2004
|
In providing an independent and the most up-to-date
assessment of bitumen supply costs and production forecasts,
CERIs latest study answers the most important question
currently posed by industry stakeholders what are the economic
prospects for oil sands projects? Recent developments including
the strengthening of the Canadian dollar and higher natural
gas prices have conspired with project cost over-runs and other
issues to subject proposed projects to closer technical and
commercial scrutiny than ever before. CERIs economic analysis
has concluded that many new projects will indeed proceed while
others will require innovative solutions to mitigate downside
risks including those brought about by the vagaries of crude
oil prices. The 200-page study entitled Oil Sands Supply Outlook:
Potential Supply and Costs of Crude Bitumen and Synthetic Crude
Oil in Canada 2003-2017 was released on March 3rd, 2004. More
information
