Tropical Storm Andrea ushered in the 2013 Atlantic hurricane season, making landfall in Florida on June 6, before moving north along the eastern seaboard.
Forecasts from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Colorado State University (CSU), and the Weather Services International (WSI) Corporation indicate that the Atlantic Basin hurricane season, which extends from June 1 to November 30, is likely to be more active than the median season (1981-2010). Expectations of above-normal tropical storm activity in 2013 are supported by the following three climate factors: continuing atmospheric and oceanic conditions (see Figure 1), warmer than average sea surface temperatures (SST) across the tropical Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea, and persisting El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO)-neutral conditions.....
