As US shale gas production dramatically increased and the country has become a net exporter of gas, the need for Canadian gas is declining across the border. The destiny of Western Canadian gas, as we wrote in the last Commodity Report, has become tied heavily with LNG projects. The resource base is large and constitutes a strong business case for export – about 870 tcf recoverable in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin (WCSB)1 – which equals more than 200 years of supply if consumed entirely in Canada. LNG has become a mature world scale industry with many players and truly transportable global commodity. New projects, including in Canada, need to weigh thoroughly on many factors before making final investment decisions.......... Download the full report.
