Oman's Solar Powered Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR)
Study Released May 15, 2014
Commodity Report - Crude Oil - April 2014
Oman is a major oil and natural gas producer in the Middle East that had its oil production peak in 2000 at around a million barrels per day. Since oil and gas revenues make up 40 percent of Oman’s gross domestic product (GDP), and Oman primarily has viscous heavy oil, Oman has invested in several enhanced oil recovery techniques (EOR)1 to improve oil recovery.2 In 2007, the declining trend reversed when the Petroleum
Development Oman (PDO), who accounts for 70 percent of Oman’s oil production, implemented EOR techniques in addition to the discovery of additional oil reservoirs. Now, Oman again produces close to a million barrels per day (see Figure 1). The use of EOR has been successful enough that the PDO expects 16 percent of its oil production to come from EOR by 2016..... Download full report.
