The COVID-19 pandemic has adversely impacted Canada's oil and natural gas industry (O&G), in addition to already limited egress for exports, volatile crude oil prices, and increased competition even prior to the pandemic. Part 1 of this four-part series, Economic Recovery Pathways for Canada's Energy Industry, provided an overview of COVID-19 impacts on the energy sector. Part 2 of the series reviews some of the central government assistance programs to assess how they can aid in the recovery of the oil and gas sector in Canada. Government aid programs have been organized into four major categories: credit loans, subsidies, tax deferrals, and grants. The analysis also includes an assessment of the economic impacts of revenues generated from the upstream oil and gas industry's operations.
